Herbal remedies rooted in Ancestral Armenian practices
Ոտքերդ կանաչցեր են, սէր:
Your feet have become green, love.
-Armenian folk poem
A blend of rose petal, rosehip, borage and primrose designed to target stubborn eczema. These medicinal flowers soothe and help our skin heal. Rosehip provides antioxidants that help calm outbreaks, while borage boosts our skin’s ability to retain moisture. Birch and pine essential oils are mixed in to boost the anti-inflammatory benefits. Apply generous layer to irritated areas one to three times daily.
2% Essential Oil Dilution.
֎ This recipe honors ancestral practices in its entirety. Amirdovlat and Armenian folk medicinal texts recommended the use of wild flowers, roses, rosehip and birch resin to target eczema as well as pine resin to help skin heal. Rosehip was also used as a natural source of sunscreen in Medieval Armenia. When it comes to the ambiguous reference to wild flowers, note that the ephemeral forget-me-not flower used as a symbol of our survival is a type of borage.
*Latest batch uses grapeseed oil in the event that someone has a sesame oil allergy.
Ingredients:
Rose petal, rosehip, borage and primrose infused grapeseed oil, birch essential oil, pine essential oil, beeswax.
2 oz tins.

POUYS // ԲՈՒՅՍ // PLANTS
Plant Medicine of Ancient Armenia
Pouys is the work of Ali Cat. Araxie, Kamee Abrahamian and myself. A collaboration I am honored to be a part of and one which we hope to continue.
“The three of us gathered for the purposes of creating POUYS because we all shared a deep love and interest in cultivating relationships with the natural world as a way towards diasporic futurism, ancestral healing and reclamation. For years, we have yearned for a resource such as this, and after hearing from many of our Armenian kin and communities that they too would benefit from such an offering, we decided to do it ourselves. Although we are not expert herbalists, we are proud excavators and whisperers of wisdom that has been long lost through lifetimes of genocide, war, displacement, forced migration, altered historiographies, imperialism coloniality and heteropatriarchy.”
This zine highlights twenty nine different plants and their ancient historical medicinal uses.

Chamomile and Lavender infused oil are mixed for a go-to daily facial salve. Frankincense, lavender and chamomile essential oils are added to boost the pore minimizing, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory benefits. Chamomile and lavender have also been shown to unclog pores while frankincense essential oil helps the overall radiance of your skin. Apply thin layer all over face once a day.
֎In Medieval Armenia, Lavender was revered for its ability to unclog the skin while chamomile baths were utilized to bring calmness and aid sleep. Frankincense was believed to strengthen the soul and the heart, aid eyelash growth, cleanse the skin and limit sweat and oil.
✧ I like to apply this salve just before bed, after washing my face, to take advantage of the additional calming benefits of these herbs.
Ingredients:
Chamomile and lavender infused grapeseed oil, chamomile essential oil, lavender essential oil, frankincense essential oil, beeswax.

Thyme infused oil acts as the foundation for this balm with cedarwood, camphor and bergamot essential oils. Bone to pick is made to help release resentment and anger. Apply to pressure points: temples, between eyebrows, under top rim of ear, inner wrist and upper back on either side of neck.
֎ In Medieval Armenia, thyme was cooked with vinegar, rendered into juice and applied directly to the head. This was thought to relieve headaches and ‘the eclipse of the mind’ which we can take to mean mental obscurity. Camphor was used to help relax the state of tension associated with being ‘hot-headed’. They would pulverize camphor and snuff it in order to take advantage of these benefits.
Ingredients: Thyme infused grapeseed Oil, beeswax, bergamot essential oil, camphor essential oil, cedarwood essential oil.
